There are two types of Taxi in Oxford, black cabs and private hire vehicles. There are designated Taxi ranks for black cabs in Oxford at Oxford train station, close to the bus station, St Giles and Conrmarket street. You are also able to flag down a black cab in the street.

Private hire vehicles are for telephone order only and it is not legal to flag down a private hire vehicle. Normally private hire cars are cheaper than black cabs so if you know where you are going and what time you need a cab, book ahead. Some of the most popular companies in Oxford are:

Cornmarket is a good place to get a taxi after a day's shopping. This is a very central location, surrounded by shops, pubs and plenty of restaurants. Taxis also tend to gather hear in the evening to pick up party goers.


You will find a convenient taxi rank in Gloucester Green, although it can be quite busy late at night due to the abundence of pubs, bars and clubs in the area. It is not advisable to flag a non black cab of the street as unlicenced cabs have been known to operate in this area.


This is a prime location for a taxi rank, right in the centre of town and in the perfect position for destinations to the North and East of Oxford. Later in the evening getting a cab from here can be tricky as many late evening revellers take them all. If not try one of the other cab locations suggested by us.


This is one of the easiest place in Oxford to grab a cab or other form of public transport such as a bus. There are also phones in the station should you need to contact a cab company.
