Oxford Castle has been completely re-developed to host a mini commercial centre. The Castle in Oxford has been transformed to accomodate the Oxford Castle Hotel (Malmaison) and a number of other shops including Krispy Kreme Doughnuts, Pizza Express to name but a few to become Oxford Oldest New Quarter. Oxford Castle served time as a Royal Castle, from which the City and upper reaches of the Thames valley were administered, as a centre of justice and for several hundred years a Gaol!
