Getting To Oxford

How to get to and around Oxford

oxford hotels

Most people arrive in Oxford via car, train or bus. Those arriving by public bus will most likely be dropped in the city centre at Gloucester Green, the central bus station. Organised bus tours normally park up close to the city centre next to the ice rink in a large car park. Those choosing to arrive by car are well advised to not to try and drive into the city centre which is a nightmare of one way streets and ingenious traffic systems dreamed up by the city council to discourage cars. The recommended route is to park your car at one of the well sign posted park and rides that are situated around the city and take one of the regular buses the rest of the way to the centre.

If you are coming to Oxford by train be advised that British railways are expensive and premium rates are charged during rush hours. It takes just one hour by train from London (although there is a slow train that takes 2 hours so be careful which one you take!) and the main railway station is a short walk from Oxford city centre.

If you decide you would like to spend a little longer in Oxford to soak up the atmosphere and visit a few more attractions why not check out some of the best hotels in Oxford and see if anything takes your fancy?
