It is located very close to Manchester city centre next to Chinatown, not far from Piccadilly railway station and a short walk from both Manchester University campuses. One of the main bus routes, London to Manchester, takes about four to five hours and costs from 12 GBP. There are regular bus services from Manchester Chorlton Street to most major UK cities although many routes may require you to change buses. To get the cheapest fares it is advisable to book online in advance.

It is not a proper bus station, more a series of bus stops and bus stands located between Piccadilly Gardens and the Piccadilly Plaza. The majority of bus services are run by First Manchester and Stagecoach Manchester with the remainder of services run by smaller bus operators.
