Situated at the north end of Regents Park, close to the city of Westminster and Camden, lies London Zoo.
The zoo first opened its gates in 1828 and as a result is now the world's oldest scientific zoo. It is home to 755 different species of animal, insects and birds making it one of the largest animal collections in the UK today.
It is divided up into different sections making it much easier to explore. Areas such as Gorilla Kingdom, which is a 6,000 square meter enclosure which is home to 5 western lowland gorillas and a collection of White Colubus Monkeys. Whilst 'Butterfly Paradise' is designed to replicate stunning tropical rainforests where colourful moths and butterflies from continents such as Asia and South America thrive.
A zoo simply wouldn't be complete without lions and tigers and in the 'Lion and Tiger enclosure' you can get pretty close to some magnificent Sumatran tigers and a pride of Asian lions.
London zoo also houses an aquarium where you can see a plethora of exotic fish and magical tropical reefs. There are also plenty of other zones that visitors can walk around.
There are plenty of places to eat and drink if you are feeling a little peckish and places such as the Oasis restaurant and the Oasis coffee bar do a roaring trade, the Animal Adventure cafe sells a delicious selection of organic sandwiches and snacks and the Aquarium kiosk serves snacks that are ideal for families on the go.
If you fancy something a little traditional then there is also a fish and chip shop selling fish from sustainable sources, such as battered Hoki.
There are also various snack and vending kiosks strategically placed around the zoo. London Zoo has something for everyone and is well worth a visit.
