Getting to, from London by bus, train, car or plane
When travelling to London from abroad you will most likely arrive at one of the four major airports located on the outskirts of London, Heathrow Airport (27 km) to the West, Gatwick Airport (45 km) to the South and Luton (55 km), Stansted (62 km) Airports to the North. All of these airports have good rail and bus links to London, although they are all a significant distance from the centre of London. The City of London Airport is the closest (14 km) airport to the centre of london, it is located in the East of London.
When travelling to London from other parts of the United Kingdom you will most likely be travelling by bus or by train. Most major bus routes will take you into London Victoria Coach Station.
If you are travelling by train there are 14 mainline train stations located near to the centre of London, which one you are arrive at depends on where you are travelling from.
Whilst you are visting London the best way to get around is to use the underground, it quicker than walking and there are tube stations close to all the popular tourist attractions. If you are not constrained by time it is more comfortable and cheaper to avoid the underground during rush hours.
