Photo of the Abbey Road

Even if you are not particularly knowledgeable about music per se, then chances are that you have still heard of Abbey road. This is the site of the recording studios of the same name and the place that the Beatles recorded their 1969 album entitled Abbey road.

The studios themselves are still very much a working place and as a result are not open to the public, and more recently people and bands such as Elton John, Alanis Morisette, Panic At The Disco, Elbow and Diana Krull have all recorded here. However the studio is most famously known as the place that the Beatles recorded their album.

Just outside the studios is the famous zebra crossing where John, Paul, George and Ringo got photographed for the above mentioned album cover. Many people come on a pilgrimage simply to walk across that famed zebra crossing. The road is very busy so if you are going to take a photograph, then watch out for cars.

There is also a wall in which you can leave your mark to say that you have been here, although it does get painted over every 6 months or so.

The studio also have a live web cam of the crossing and pictures stay up for 24 hours, so you can go to the website and watch yourself cross the road.

As you step out of the St John's Wood tube station, you are less than 5 minutes walk from Abbey road and just outside the tube station is the 'Beatles Cafe' where they sell a wide variety of Beatles memorabilia as well as refreshments.

This will certainly appeal to Beatles fans and anybody who is generally interested in music might find the time in their busy schedule to pay this place a visit.
