Oxford is well connected to Cambridge by bus and train. Direct buses run every 30 minutes from 7am to 7pm. The buses take you from the centre of Oxford (Gloucester Green Bus Station) to the Centre of Cambridge (Parkside, next to Drummer Street Bus Station). The journey takes about 3 hours and 20 minutes and costs between 10 and 15 GBP for a return ticket. To book in advance on the secure official website just click the button below:
After booking online, you will be issued with an e-ticket, which you need to print out and take with you, or an m-ticket, which is sent to your mobile phone. Otherwise you can get at ticket at the bus station. Buses from Bath to Cambridge can be very crowded at times and there is no guarantee of a place unless you book in advance.
For advice, ticket amendments, refunds and cancellations please call National Express dedicated booking line on 08705 808080 between 08:00 and 20:00. Calls cost a maximum of 7.91 pence a minute in the UK. Mobile and other networks may vary.
The alternative to taking the coach is to get a train from Oxford railway station to Cambridge railway station. The journey takes about 2 hours and 30 minutes and requires you to change trains 2 times. Firstly you get a train to London Paddington, then get the underground to Londons Kings Cross, then take a train from there to Cambridge. The cost is about 50 GBP for an off peak return ticket.
The UK train ticketing system is notoriously complicated. It is usually cheaper to buy your tickets up to 6pm on the day before you travel than on the day. And fares are more expensive if you travel before 09:30.
On arrival in Cambridge, it is a 15-minute walk to the town centre, or you can catch a taxi outside the station for around 5 GBP. There is also a bus that runs about every 10 minutes.
To walk, exit the station and continue along Station Road, which is directly in front of you. At the T-junction, turn right onto Hills Road, which takes you towards the city centre.
If you are travelling in a group you may find the most economic way to travel from Oxford to Cambridge is by private taxi.
