Welcome to Cambridge

St John's College, Cambridge
St Johns College, Cambridge
Cambridge is a famous University town and a major UK tourist destination in its own right. Cambridge is located about 60 miles (95km) north of central London in the county of Cambridgeshire.

The University of Cambridge has a friendly rivalry with Oxford University and every year the two battle it out in the infamous Oxford Cambridge Boat Race, a rowing race along the river Thames in central London. One of Cambridge's most popular tourist attractions is St John College which is a spectacular college built in 1516. Since its foundation it has seen alumni that include nine Nobel Prize winners, six Prime Ministers, three archbishops, a prince and one Saint!

Cambridge has excellent bus and train links with the capital and its bus and train stations are conveniently located in the centre of the city. If arriving by car, Cambridge has a park and ride system where you park on the outskirts of the city in a large car park and take a bus to the city centre. The council encourages use of this as there is not a great deal of parking in the city centre.

During the summer months one of the most popular activities for tourists in the city is punting. A punt is a flat-bottomed boat which is designed for use in small rivers and shallow water and it is propelled by a wooden pole from the back or front of the boat depending on whether you are in Oxford or Cambridge.
